I was contracted by BUDS (Birmingham University Dance Society) to develop a logo and program for their annual showcase. Throughout the project, I operated independently while maintaining regular communication with the BUDS team. We held weekly progress check-ins, and I actively participated in committee meetings to ensure a seamless design process that aligned with their creative vision.
Both the logo, programme cover and text were made on Procreate. To learn more about my design process: read below.

Logo Design
BUDS kindly presented me with a mood board that encompassed the desired aesthetic for the showcase.
Taking into account the specifications outlined in the brief, I made the decision to create several mock-up designs. These design prototypes, showcased below, aimed to encapsulate various elements from the mood board.

After the meeting, BUDS chose the Walk of Fame star, Marilyn Monroe figure, and film reel to be included in our project.
BUDS requested that we explore the possibility of blending the star and film reel concepts together. To achieve this, I proposed a design concept that incorporated the star along with a wrap-around film reel, similar to the wrap-around design on the mock-up Monroe figure.
They also expressed their approval for the Marilyn Monroe figure, but we collectively agreed that it was too intricate to be included in the logo. Instead, we decided to incorporate it into the program cover once the logo design was finalized.
This was the initial design of the two incorporated elements.
However, after presenting it to the BUDS team, they provided several notes.
They expressed the need for the word 'Hollywood' to have more prominence, with less emphasis on 'Live'.
Furthermore, they requested that the colours be less saturated. While they appreciated the yellow and red design, they preferred the yellow to have a more golden tone and desired a deeper, more mature shade of red.

After receiving feedback, I made appropriate adjustments and addressed the requested changes, such as adjusting text sizes and using more subtle colouring.
In the subsequent meeting, I presented the revised version to BUDS and they expressed satisfaction with the improvements. Consequently, we collectively agreed on the red/gold design as the final logo.

Programme Design
Since we previously discussed the inclusion of the Monroe figure in the program design, I was able to determine the central element. My inspiration came from the vintage movie posters of Old Hollywood.
During my search on Pinterest, I came across some reference images that caught my attention. I particularly enjoyed the colour scheme used in the Sound of Music poster. Additionally, the oval cut-out placed behind the figure was quite appealing to me.
In order to ensure consistency between the logo and the program, I made the decision to incorporate the star from the logo as the cut-out behind Monroe.

After submitting this design, the team at BUDS was pleased to accept it without any revisions.
